Back In the Day

I was cleaning out the closet in our spare bedroom, we usually call it the den or the junks, it really is a junk room with a bed, a tv, the playstation, all of my scrapbooking stuff, our Christmas tree and most of our books. I came across a box of cassette tapes. The box itself is a silver gift box from Dillards that we received some of our wedding china in. We had several of those boxes and in the first few months of our marriage, they were our bedside tables. I didn't realize we still had so many cassettes. A lot of them were from our missions - tapes we made for our families etc... But I ran across a couple of other good ones. The bad thing is that we don't have a single cassette player in this house.

I'll bet there is not a single person who reads this who remembers the Sparks. I loved that song. I have some awesome 80's cassettes; Tears for Fears, Dead or Alive, Sugar Cubes, and the soundtrack from My Turn on Earth. Alan had a much broader collection including Midnight Oil, The Oak Ridge Boys, Neil Diamond, U2, the Police and Marty Robbins. I found tapes that we taped from the radio (KZZP 104.7 fm) including several Sunday nights worth of Dr. Demento.

So, in honor of the mix tape I found that my 11th grade boyfriend, William Ferris, made me that consisted of mainly Journey songs, I am posting this mix tape for you all to enjoy!

You are so tech savy with your cassette tape music playing. Love it. If you are ever in the mood to be nestalgic(sp?) come to my house I do have a cassette player still. Is that really pathetic to admit. Me and Jon also have a box of tapes that I just can't get rid of - mission tapes and classic music mixes that have too many memories.

You are very special to me with your magical cassette tape!

The ultimate cassette tape I ever received was from a missionary (he was just a friend--but apparently decided we were more than that-2 years away can really mess with your mind I guess). Anyway - he talked on it for awhile and at the end he said, "Nicole, I am going to sing you a song that reminds me of you on a daily basis." He preceded to sing, "How Great Thou Art". Sacriligious? Yes. Memorable? Of course. I sure wish I would've saved it - so I could play it for my DH when he thinks I'm less than great. tehee

P - I am really not that tech savvy - it was easy. I might need to use your tape player. I have been listening to random tapes in the suburban - the kids think I am crazy during car pool.

N - I laughed out loud so hard. When I in awesome wonder , consider all the laughs your comments have made....

Mix-tapes! I love it. I had a couple of missionaries (yeah, what can I say?) and we exchanged tapes a lot. Too funny! I remember when I used to buy singles on cassettes and there would always be a bonus song on side B. I still have a lot of them! And like you...no cassette player! Crazy.

I just went through my tapes too. I have been decluttering and throwing so much stuff away! My tapes brought back fun memories too. One was called "car tape- dance."
